About  Me...

I am originally from Brazil, and have moved a lot in my life, collecting experiences and ingredients for my practice along the way. While in Brazil I studied to be a dentist, but as I got deeper into my studies, I found that I was not fulfilled. When I was 21 I moved to the United States, where I completed my Bachelor of Graphic Arts, focusing on Illustration and Design. I lived in the States for 11 years, mostly in Portland, Oregon, but also Camas, San Francisco and New York. I even lived in Portugal for a short while. When I came to Canada in 2006 to visit my husband's family, I fell in love with the country and its people. I knew I had found my forever home. We have been living here since 2007, running a small tailoring shop and a children's book publishing house, and I am proud to call myself a Canadian.

After my experience with the publishing house, I wanted to dig deeper into the education field, and so I decided to become a teacher, with a Bachelor of Education from Vancouver Island University. After completing my practicum at Woodlands High, in Nanaimo, B.C., I was hired to teach two terms of Information Technology and Foods. I also had an amazing experience teaching High School Arts at York House School the following year. Since then, I have taught grade 6, grade 5 and a split grade 2/3 class.

My favourite subjects are Information Technology, Biology, Pottery, Arts and English, but I also love Math, Spanish and Textiles. It's an interesting mix, but so is good soup!

I am creative, fair and expect a lot from my students. I encourage everyone to push past their perceived boundaries in order to reach their very best.  I believe everyone can excel with the right inspiration and that creativity is the broth for everything. I develop connections easily with my students and make all of them feel like they are special, and they matter -- because they are, and they do!!!

To reinforce my belief that things go better mixed together, I was awarded the BCTF Maxwell A. Cameron Memorial Award for Secondary Education for the year 2014-2015. As I love technology, I have completed an Online Learning and Teaching Diploma in 2017, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership (May 2018) with a focus on teaching children about online safety in a fun way. For more on this, please visit my eWarrior site. I am also working towards a 3D printing Specialization Certificate.

My hobbies include creating whimsical art, dancing, singing, writing, reading, cooking and sewing amazing costumes.

I hope you enjoy my portfolio, and have a wonderful day!
